Auckland's largest indoor entertainment and sporting venue, Vector Arena, is set for a name change as telco Spark takes over the brand, technology partner and naming rights contract.
It is understood the venue will be known as Spark Arena from April next year.
In June 2006, energy company Vector paid an undisclosed sum thought to be in the millions to secure naming rights for 10 years on the $80 million venue. The arena has attracted a number of big international names, including Iron Maiden, Rudimental, Madonna and Black Sabbath.
The contract ends this year and it's understood Spark was one of several bidders for the new contract. Details of the agreement were commercially sensitive with Spark unable to comment on how long the contract was for or how much was paid but chief executive Simon Moutter said the partnership made sense.
"Customers, young and old, tell us music is a huge part of their lives, that's why it makes so much sense for us to partner with a venue that attracts some of the world's most talented artists and entertainers," Moutter said.
