KEY POINTS:
Orcon added two more exchanges to its unbundled high-speed ADSL2+ service today, with promises to make it available to double the number of Aucklanders by the end of May.
The internet and phone broadband service has the potential to deliver speeds of up to 24 megabits per second downstream and up to 1 Mbps upstream, plan dependent, significantly increasing the bandwidth capacity of standard ADSL.
Orcon subscribers in the Auckland CBD and Takapuna exchange areas will have ADSL2+ access from today, with Blockhouse Bay, Howick, Mt Eden and Remuera next on the list.
"We have been receiving a huge amount of feedback from people really impressed at the higher speeds," said Orcon boss Scott Bartlett.
"Customers are telling us that where they used to wait several minutes for a high definition movie trailer to load, it is now plays in under a minute."
