The Commerce Commission is proposing to continue its approach to number portability - which enables customers to keep their number when changing telcos - for local and mobile phone numbers for another six years.
The commission today published a draft that would extend its first number portability determination that was issued in 2005 and runs out next month.
Telecommunications Commissioner Ross Patterson said number portability had been working well since its introduction in April 2007, enabling telecommunications consumers to switch providers.
All parties agreed the determination should be extended, he said.
