Out on the road and desperate for coffee? In two months your cellphone will be able to help you find all the cafes within 500m.
Venture capital funds Endeavour i-cap and TMT Ventures have agreed to put $750,000 each into Albany-based GeoSmart to develop a nationwide database of cafes and other services, with maps showing how to get to them from wherever you are.
GeoSmart chief executive Phil Allen said the new system would be available by July.
"You can have businesses that register online, such as a restaurant that is not full on Thursdays between 7pm and 9pm and might offer free entrees for those two hours," Allen said.
"I can set the location-based service so I only want to know about specials in restaurants on Thursday nights in Parnell."
GeoSmart, which changed its name from Air Logistics NZ last September, is an aerial photography company that has gradually absorbed firms such as Whites Aviation, Air Photos and Aerial Surveys.
