KEY POINTS:
The Commerce Commission is expecting to hold a scoping workshop next month on the co-location of equipment to Telecom's telephone exchanges by other operators.
All interested parties would be invited to the workshop, and afterwards Telecom would be required to submit a standard terms proposal for the supply of the co-location service, the commission said today.
Following consultation on Telecom's proposal, the commission would set price and non-price terms for co-location.
Co-locating equipment will help the other operators provide such services as broadband to their customers, over Telecom's local loop network.
A scoping workshop of key stakeholders on the process of determining standard terms for access to Telecom's network of local telephone lines was held earlier this month.
The commission said it expected that the processes for both the unbundling of the local loops, and the exchange co-location would be aligned.
Moves to open up Telecom's exchanges and its local loop follow amendments to the law covering telecommunications in December.
