KEY POINTS:
The Commerce Commission has answered a call from phone company ihug to reconsider the price for Telecom's regulated bitstream service to ihug and CallPlus.
The commission said today it would reconsider the issue and the reconsideration could change pricing terms. In the meantime an original decision by the commission remained in force.
Bitstream is a circuit provided by Telecom, used by telecommunications providers to deliver retail broadband internet services.
In June, Telecom was required to provide nationwide bitsream access to ihug and CallPlus with the maximum downstream speed technically available and an upstream speed of 128kbps, at a GST-exclusive price of $28.04 per month.
That followed a similar decision late last year allowing TelstraClear the right to obtain a regulated bitsream access service.
This month ihug asked the commission to reconsider pricing of the service.
Ihug, bought by mobile company Vodafone in October, considered that there had been material changes in circumstances since the commission's decision in June.
