Shares worth over $14 billion changed hands on the stockmarket in the first half of the year, up 17 per cent from the same period the previous year.
New Zealand Exchange statistics showed $2.4 billion of shares changed hands on the main bourse last month alone, up 14 per cent from June 2004.
Across all NZX markets, the average daily number of trades reached 2540 last month, a 9 per cent increase on the same month last year, while the daily average value of trades rose 19 per cent to $125 million.
