KEY POINTS:
The service sector is continuing to expand near its peak, according to Business New Zealand's Performance of Services Index (PSI). The PSI for September stood at 59, compared with 59.4 in August.
A reading above 50 indicates an expansion. The highest sub-index was new orders/business at 65.4, which was the same level as last month. The activity/sales index dipped slightly to 60.7.
The stocks/inventories index at 57.1 experienced a large increase from August, probably due to businesses building up stocks for Christmas. There was a noticeable pick-up in the number of positive comments in the survey with 56.7 per cent positive.
