Sylvia Park confirms Farmers as new tenant

Kiwi Property has secured Farmers for its proposed Galleria Sylvia Park mall expansion, due to be completed in 2020.

Farmers has agreed to lease the 8000sq m of space to create a new two-level department store.

Chris Gudgeon, chief executive of Kiwi Property, said shoppers had been asking for a Farmers store to open at Sylvia Park.

"Farmers is an iconic and much-loved New Zealand brand and a perfect fit for our expansion plans for the centre, which could comprise up to 20,000sq m of additional retail space," Gudgeon said.

Kiwi Property was planning to be in a position to give the green light to its Galleria expansion project by mid-2018, following board approval.

According to a Nielsen survey, Sylvia Park is New Zealand's favourite shopping centre.

Sylvia Park is home to more than 200 retailers, including H&M and Zara, and attracts more than 14 million visitors every year.

"Our vision for Sylvia Park is to create a truly world-class retail offer, with the objective of positioning the centre firmly as Auckland's most attractive shopping destination," Gudgeon said.

Cleaver & Co, The Little District, Birdie's Bar and Deli will join Sylvia Park's new dining precinct The Grove.
