The Warehouse opens a new store in Auckland tomorrow.
Chief executive Mark Powell said the Royal Oak store at 100 Pah Rd was developed under the chain's new-look format, being brought to all outlets in the next five years.
When the chain applied to build, a report to the Auckland Council recommended against allowing consent for a 7500sq m Warehouse and 339 carparks, which proposed operating from 7am till 10pm seven days a week.
Clare Covington of planners Harrison Grierson Consultants told the council the site had contained an historic industrial building. The Warehouse demolished that to build on the site.
Alliance Textiles was once there but the distinctive block had also been a gymnasium, office, and more recently an education facility, Covington said, recommending against council permission.
