New Zealand's online retail spending now exceeds $3 billion per year, BNZ's latest Online Retail Sales Report shows.
The report showed total online retail spending last month was up 7 per cent compared to April last year, while online purchases from companies in New Zealand was up just 3 per cent compared to the same time last year.
Bricks and mortar stores had fared slightly better, with Statistics New Zealand's Electronic Card Transactions data showing spending at physical stores was up 5 per cent year-on-year.
Online purchases from international merchants continued to show double-digit growth, BNZ's report showed, with spending up 14 per cent compared to April last year.
Despite the growth, local online stores maintained market dominance.
Domestic online sales comprised a 58 per cent share, despite international merchants gaining a extra 2.5 per cent market share over the past year.
Breaking the figures down by category, for the three months ending April compared to the same period in 2013, purchases from daily sale websites dropped 14 per cent, the report showed.
