Most of Albany mall will be open for business by the end of the week after a tornado tore through the area on Tuesday, its owner Westfield New Zealand said today.
Westfield New Zealand director Justin Lynch said three quarters of stores in the mall were now open, bringing the total number of stores trading to 110.
The company said it anticipated re-opening all lower level stores, with the exception of Farmers, by Sunday.
As of today 39 stores, including Westpac, JB Hi Fi, Barkers, Number One Shoes and Max, remain closed.
The eastern end of the centre, which includes about 82 stores - including New World, Kmart and the Foodcourt opened for trade on Wednesday, a day after the tornado.
"Westfield has worked closely with its retailers to re-open Westfield Albany to the public. The centre is a place of employment and livelihood for many. Therefore, it was important the centre re-opened in a safe and efficient manner," Lynch said.
