Easter trading bill nod

A bill allowing city and district councils to decide whether local shops can stay open on Easter Sunday has passed its first hurdle.

Promoted by Rotorua MP Steve Chadwick, it passed its first reading 80-39 last night. The bill enables councils to enact special consultative procedures to find out whether locals want their shops trading on the day.
