The Retailers Association says it's time shop owners were given the option of opening on Easter Sunday.
Spokesman Barry Hellberg says it's happy to keep the law as it is for Good Friday, Christmas Day and Anzac Day morning, but it wants a law change for this day.
He says there are two issues for retailers, the first of which is whether they would trade if they could.
"There are a considerable number of retailers that would not open on that day even if they had the choice, but then there are the employees of the business who the employer would have to negotiate with, whether or not they worked on that day."
Mr Hellberg says some shop owners will gladly flout the law anyway, as the profit from opening often outweighs the $1000 fine.
