KEY POINTS:
Sports clothing giant adidas' corporate bosses will be monitoring a new format store at Auckland International Airport to see whether it can be introduced in other markets.
Its third retail store in the country opens next Thursday and joins the sportsware-focused store in Newmarket and the fashion-focused adidas Originals Concept Store in Wellington.
Managing director of adidas New Zealand Greig Bramwell said the airport store would be the first internationally to offer a range of adidas merchandise.
It would include sportswear for football clubs Chelsea and Liverpool, Rebel Sport Super 14 teams, the NBA and cricket.
Usually, adidas stores are linked to individual team or sport sponsorship relationships, while others sell general adidas gear.
The airport outlet would be focused on the company's close sponsorship relationship with the All Blacks, but would sell a range of sponsorship merchandise.
The company would be watching to see how the concept could be developed in other territories.
Bramwell said he expected to establish new fashion-based stores in Auckland and a sportsware-based store Wellington. It was also looking at an adidas store in Christchurch.
