Oil stays steady

Opec expects the price of its basket of crudes to remain in a US$45-US$55 a barrel range in the near term, a level it feels does not harm the world economy.

But acting secretary-general Adnan Shihab-Eldin said it was too early to say what the cartel would decide at its next meeting at the end of next month.
