Transtasman printing and media services company PMP is spending $20 million on expanding its New Zealand commercial printing operations.
The Australia-listed company, which employs about 500 staff in New Zealand, is spending the money on new and upgraded presses in Auckland and Christchurch.
The expansion follows a group-wide strategic review of the company spearheaded by former All Black captain David Kirk.
Kirk took over as PMP's Sydney-based managing director and chief executive in February.
The company's New Zealand chief executive, Geoff Cope, said the strong performance of its print division, PMP Print, in the New Zealand market and confidence in its future growth had led to the decision to invest in the local operation.
The expansion of capacity at both PMP Print's Auckland plant, in Wiri, and its Christchurch plant, would allow further growth and provide more flexibility and print options for customers.
A new $17 million 32-page press would be added to the Christchurch plant, which has 16-page press capacity at present.
A 32-page press unit would be added to the Wiri plant.
Kirk said he was delighted the company was able to make a significant investment in its New Zealand business.
"We have the opportunity to grow our business with this investment. The board were very pleased to support the good work of Geoff and his management team in building our business in New Zealand with the capital required to build it further."
