Internet job advertising appears to be the way of the future, with a 44 per cent increase in the year to June.
The ANZ Job Ads Series shows newspaper advertising has fallen 5.5 per cent over the same period.
ANZ economist Steve Edwards says a real trend towards online ads has emerged over the past few months.
He says previously internet advertising acted as a supplement to newspaper classifieds, but a clear switch to online ads is appearing, which must be hurting traditional newspaper advertising.
However, overall, the survey shows the labour market is continuing to soften.
Both newspaper and internet advertising slumped to five month lows in Auckland, Manawatu and Canterbury, but jumped 5.3 per cent in Hawke's Bay, a new high for the region.
Mr Edwards says the key slowdown has come in urban areas.
