SYDNEY - Global media giant News Corp Inc has pledged $US1 million ($NZ1.43 million) to the Salvation Army to support its Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp said it would also match -- dollar for dollar -- contributions made by its employees to accredited charities to a total of $US1 million.
And its Fox Network's Group has committed more than $US5 million in commercial inventory across FOX Broadcasting Co and all of News Corp's cable and satellite-delivered programming services.
The company said public service announcements benefiting the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and USA Freedom Corps' ongoing relief efforts have already begun.
"In addition, FOX, FX and FSN will participate in an industry-wide simulcast of a benefit concert and telethon that will air sometime in the coming week," it said in a statement.
