KEY POINTS:
James Murdoch, the chief executive of satellite broadcaster BSkyB, is planning to exit the British firm in the summer to take up a role at father Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, the Mail on Sunday newspaper reported.
The paper said Murdoch is to be replaced at Sky by head of Sky Italia, Tom Mockridge.
BSkyB played down the reports as "just speculation" and declined to comment further.
Media reports have speculated for some time that Murdoch will leave Sky to join his father at News Corp with many tipping Mockridge as his successor.
The Mail said that Rupert Murdoch had been keen for his son to return to the US last year.
