KEY POINTS:
APN News & Media chief executive Brendan Hopkins has resigned as a director of Independent News & Media (INM).
INM, controlled by the family of Sir Anthony O'Reilly, said the resignation followed INM's decision to conduct a strategic review of its 39.1 per cent holding in APN, following a number of unsolicited expressions of interest in the stake.
APN's assets include the New Zealand Herald, regional newspapers in this country and Australia, and 50 per cent of the Radio Network. It is also the biggest outdoor advertising operator in Australasia.
Hopkins said he was mindful that APN and its shareholders would require his singular focus at this critical juncture.
