The managing director of the New Zealand Herald, John Sanders, has been appointed an executive director of Independent News and Media in Ireland.
It is the first time New Zealand has been represented on the board of the company which owns Wilson & Horton, publisher of the Herald, as well as media interests in Ireland, Britain, South Africa and Australia.
Mr Sanders is chief executive officer of the Wilson & Horton Group, which is New Zealand's largest news and information group, with metropolitan and regional newspapers.
He is also chairman of the Newspaper Publishers Association of New Zealand and The Herald Foundation.
Mr Sanders has held a number of senior executive positions in Australia, including chief executive of APN Newspapers in Queensland, general manager of Advertiser Newspapers in Adelaide and general manager of the Cairns Post.
