The Herald continues to be the country's best-read newspaper.
New readership figures from Nielsen Media Research show that the paper is read by an average 563,000 people a day, and a cumulative figure of a million across a week.
Two-thirds of Aucklanders read a copy of the Herald every week.
The Weekend Herald is the best-read Auckland and North Island weekend paper, with 635,000 readers.
The figures are for the year July 2004 to June 30 this year. It is difficult to compare the results with past years.
This survey has made changes to its methodology and sample distribution from previous periods, with response rates lower in one quarter, and margins of error wider than in past reports.
