Gordon & Gotch has bought Independent Magazine Distributors (IMD), inching closer to its rival Netlink and a 50 per cent share of the market.
Gordon & Gotch is wholly owned by ASX-listed print and media services company PMP while Netlink is owned by private equity controlled ACP.
IMD was formed 11 years ago to distribute small titles. It is understood the owners have been looking to sell for some time.
As a small player IMD would have struggled to compete against the major rivals. One magazine industry player suggested IMD accounted for only about 3 per cent of the market.
Gordon & Gotch confirmed redundancies but said there would be fewer than 10.
