Elise Andrew offered $45m for I F***ing Love Science. She said no

The creator of one of the most popular pages on Facebook has revealed she turned down an offer of $45 million for the website.

I F***ing Love Science has 22 million likes on its page and appears on most Facebook users newsfeed.

Elise Andrew is the woman behind the page and has been sharing random science facts, weird discoveries, photos and videos with her millions of fans since 2012. Science for the masses, Andrew shares information about space, the animal kingdom, the human brain, and nutrition.

On World Mental Health Day she sent a flurry of tweets to her followers on Twitter, and revealed she had turned down a US$30 million offer for IFLScience.

I was offered $30 million for IFLScience last year. And it was so, so tempting. Not because of the money.

Overnight, she clarified her tweet and said the timing wasn't right to give up IFLScience. "I love what I do," she tweeted. "I believe in it, I have lots of plans for non-profits, scholarships".

Why would I sell? I have everything I need right now. And honestly, I'm just not that motivated by money. I have more than I need.

She said the money wasn't tempting to her, but the idea of handing over the page to someone else to deal with the barrage of trolls and insults that comes with being internet famous was attractive.

No more bitchy blogs, or YouTube comments, or whatever. I could delete social media. Blissful silence.

The 26-year-old British woman revealed she has struggled with mental health problems from a young age and wanted to speak up on the issue on World Mental Health Day. She has been diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, she said.

The only advice I have to those struggling with mental health issues is the same advice I give myself every single day. It does get better.

Andrew said she finds it difficult to cope with all the personal comments people make about her online.

This year, Forbes named Andrew on their 30 Under 30 list for media influencers.
