The purchase of teen magazine Creme by New Zealand Magazines last week signals the start of an expansion that may see the publisher buy more titles this year.
Chief executive Sarah Sandley said there were several prospective developments - but the company would not jump into areas it was not strong in.
New Zealand Magazines, owned by APN News & Media, publisher of the Herald, also publishes the Listener and the New Zealand Woman's Weekly.
Sandley said the company was strong in current affairs and publishing for women and girls, but was also looking at lifestyle.
APN bought New Zealand's biggest newspaper publisher, Wilson & Horton, more than three years ago. It is also joint owner of The Radio Network.
