Andrew Holden, the editor of The Press in Christchurch, has been appointed as editor-in-chief of Melbourne's The Age.
The announcement follows the resignation of Paul Ramadge yesterday.
Mr Holden will take up the role in September, and for the next two months will split his time between Christchurch and Melbourne
Fairfax Media will soon begin recruiting for his replacement at The Press.
Mr Holden was employed by The Age in senior roles before moving to New Zealand in 2001. He joined The Press in 2007.
