Chch Press editor moves to Melbourne paper

Andrew Holden, the editor of The Press in Christchurch, has been appointed as editor-in-chief of Melbourne's The Age.

The announcement follows the resignation of Paul Ramadge yesterday.

Mr Holden will take up the role in September, and for the next two months will split his time between Christchurch and Melbourne

Fairfax Media will soon begin recruiting for his replacement at The Press.

Mr Holden was employed by The Age in senior roles before moving to New Zealand in 2001. He joined The Press in 2007.

The publisher and editor-in-chief, Peter Fray, and editor Amanda Wilson of the Sydney Morning Herald also quit yesterday.

The upheaval comes only days after Fairfax Media announced 1900 job cuts across the flagship newspapers.
