Whirlpool bidding for Maytag

US appliance maker Maytag says it will weigh up a higher, unsolicited takeover offer from its larger rival Whirlpool, even though it had agreed to be acquired by a group led by Ripplewood.

Whirlpool, which has an alliance with Fisher & Paykel, announced its offer on Sunday.
