KEY POINTS:
Manufacturing activity picked up last month despite a stronger currency and higher interest rates, a survey showed yesterday.
The seasonally adjusted Business NZ Performance of Manufacturing Index (PMI) rose to 54.6 last month from 50.6 in June, which had been the index's lowest reading in 18 months.
A figure over 50 indicates manufacturing is expanding; under 50 indicates contraction.
