KEY POINTS:
Fisher & Paykel Appliances (FPA) is to establish a call centre in Dunedin from April next year.
The whiteware manufacture announced in April that it was moving its Mosgiel production to Mexico, Thailand and Italy, costing 430 jobs.
FPA said the call centre would initially have about 40 staff and would be a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation, taking calls from customers around the world.
It would supplement the company's other call centres in Brisbane and Auckland.
The company is also leaving product research and development for its cooking and dishwashing products in Dunedin.
"We see the necessary skill sets for both the product development and call centre being available in the Dunedin region," FPA chief operating officer for NZ, Malcolm Harris, said.
Shares in FPA were up 5c in early afternoon trade to $2.25.
In August last year FPA announced plans to relocate its electronics factory from Auckland to Thailand , with the loss of 96 jobs.
