KEY POINTS:
A decision by United States taxpayer-funded medical insurance programmes should be good news for Fisher & Paykel Healthcare.
The US Centres for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) are proposing to provide cover for home diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) using portable monitoring machines, The Dominion Post reported today.
At present, people have to visit registered laboratories for diagnosis where they typically stay for one or two nights.
Healthcare managing director Mike Daniell said the CMS move was good news because it should help to underpin the growth of the OSA market.
OSA is a disorder that disrupts breathing during sleep. Healthcare made nearly half its interim revenue, $80.8 million, from devices to treat the disorder.
Healthcare shares rose 3 cents to $3.31 yesterday.
