Ports of Auckland has lifted its cargo volumes marginally in the year to June 30 despite losing a big container customer to Port of Tauranga a year ago.
Confirming analysts' expectations, the port company reported a 4.3 per cent growth in breakback cargo to 4.4 million tonnes - most of it explained by 5000 more vehicle imports - and steady container volumes at 525,000 TEUs (20ft equivalents), compared with 526,000 TEUs the previous year.
Total cargo volumes were up 1.2 per cent to 12.8 million tonnes.
The company lost 50,000 TEUs (10 per cent of its total) when shipping line ANZDL switched most of its container business to Tauranga.
Ports of Auckland's share price closed yesterday unchanged at 440c.
