New car registrations rose 10.2 per cent in September from August, but remained one per cent down from a year earlier, Land Transport New Zealand said today.
A total of 7422 new cars were sold compared with 6733 in August, and 7498 a year earlier, LTNZ said in a statement.
Used car registrations -- generally imported used cars -- totalled 8948 last month, 6.8 per cent down on August and 27.4 per cent down on a year earlier.
New commercial vehicle registrations during the month were 1840, down 1 per cent from the 1,858 recorded a month earlier, and 16.7 per cent below September 2005.
The top selling make in September was Ford with 1252 new cars, followed by Toyota with 1241 new cars.
