KiwiRail has signed a 10-year lease for 4100sq m of office space in a new Parnell building at 8 Stanley St.
Jim Quinn, chief executive, said the state-owned rail and ferry organisation would move to the second and third floors of the new development.
Its staff will fill more than half the building.
Quinn said the move would amalgamate KiwiRail staff who are now in three buildings across the city.
A spokesperson for building owner McDougall Reidy said National Libraries would take most of the rest of the space in the block built by Haydn & Rollett.
