KEY POINTS:
The Henderson-based company Alloy Yachts won the World's Best Superyacht award at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. The gong, accepted by managing director Tony Hambrook, was for the 40m motor yacht Ad Lib.
The International Superyacht Society, the only organisation representing the large yacht industry worldwide, judged the boat best in its class. Alloy Yachts employs 315 people. The company has two 52m superyachts under construction and two motor yachts, one 41m and the other 34m.

Safety at Sea at 79 Gaunt Street, Westhaven, has concluded an arrangement to become a collection point for the disposal of the superseded 121.5MKz emergency beacons.
Safety at Sea will dismantle the beacons and pass the batteries on to the Auckland Regional Council's HazMobile for disposal. As a bonus for boaters the company will provide a $50 rebate on any beacon traded in against the showroom price of any 406MHz beacon.

There's plenty of action on the water this weekend with classic yachts doing their thing and the youngsters at the bottom of the sailing chain racing in Starling and P-Class trials. Activity includes:

Today and tomorrow: Tanner Cup Trials, Auckland and North Harbour (Kohimaramara YC and Murrays Bay SC).
Tomorrow: Flying Fifteen, F18 and dinghy championships (RAYC); return race (Panmure Y & BC); spring race (PCC).
