KEY POINTS:
Auckland-based Lighthouse Marine Equipment has become a dealer for Garmin marine electronics.
Lighthouse will supply a range of Garmin electronics, including GPS plotters, GPS units, fishfinders, radars, autopilots and marine communications equipment from its Albany showroom.
Founded in 1989, Garmin is regarded as one of the world leaders in satellite navigation and communications technology.
As well as marine electronics, Garmin produces automotive, aviation, fitness, outdoor recreation and wireless technology.
Garmin's marine navigation equipment uses up-to-date GPS technology, backed by detailed, satellite-enhanced, global charts.
Compatible Garmin navigation units can also use BlueChart g2 Vision cards to add further detail and most Garmin GPS plotters can display sonar, radar and video data via the company's proprietary Garmin Marine Network.
High-end Garmin 5000 Series GPS-plotters (pictured) also incorporate touch-screen technology.
This makes navigation "as easy as pointing a finger".
