Trucking companies are paying around $500 million a year more for diesel than they were three years ago, the Road Transport Forum says.
Chief executive officer Tony Friedlander said that in 2003 the industry spent around $570 million on fuel.
"This year, the bill has hit $1.3 billion. It's more than doubled in just 36 months," he said.
