Second-hand car dealer K2 Motor Co, which trades as Shackel Motor Co, has acknowledged it misled consumers about the price of vehicles.
In a settlement with the Commerce Commission, Shackel said it failed to acknowledge Land Transport Safety Authority (LTSA) fees when it promoted its $7900 car yard and $9990 car yard in Wellington.
Shackel also advertised a five-day sale last June, when it said it would give away various promotional gifts with car sales, including televisions, DVD players and mountain bikes.
But Shackel failed to disclose that consumers had to sign a hire-purchase agreement to be eligible for the gifts.
