The number of Port Nelson employees earning annual remuneration packages of more than $100,000 has doubled in the last year, despite the port losing its former general manager and chief executive.
But current chief executive Martin Byrne said he was comfortable with the number of staff on higher salaries, which was in line with other New Zealand ports.
Port Nelson's annual report for the 2003-04 financial year was released this month. It shows 10 employees pocketed salary and benefit packages in excess of $100,000.
This compared with just four the previous financial year.
