Plunging dairy prices have again pushed down the price of New Zealand grocery shopping.
Food prices in July fell 0.2 per cent, down a total of 1.3 per cent in the year, Statistics New Zealand said today.
The decreases were heavily influenced by plunging prices of dairy products in recent months.
In the July month cheese prices dropped 11 per cent, fresh milk down 3.2 per cent, yoghurt down 9.7 per cent and butter 11 per cent.
Meat, poultry, and fish prices also decreased - 2.1 per cent in the year, with lower prices for chicken down 9.9 per cent on higher prices for beef.
Grocery food prices fell 0.7 per cent, influenced by lower prices for cakes, biscuits and packaged snacks.
