KEY POINTS:
Local maker of energy efficient motors Wellington Drive Technologies has been recognised by a United States government energy efficiency labelling programme.
The company can now use the Energy Star mark as a service and product provider of energy efficient products for commercial buildings.
Wellington Drive designs and manufactures energy saving motors used in commercial and residential appliances such as supermarket refrigerators, bottle coolers, vending machines, washing machines, ceiling fans and ventilation units.
Chief executive Ross Green said that being part of the respected and credible Energy Star labelling programme perfectly fit the company's focus on sustainability in its operations and the design of its products.
The US Department of Energy estimated 25 per cent of an average household electricity bill and 40 per cent of all industrial electricity went into powering small motors, he said.
"This could be halved if Wellington motors were used as an alternative," he said.
