Lines company Vector has completed a 150km fibre-optic loop, between 14 Auckland substations, for Transpower.
The 18-month project was part of Transpower's national grid upgrade.
Vector chief executive Simon Mackenzie said Vector's fibre network was ideal for Transpower's upgrade as it provided fast data transmission.
"There are clear efficiency and economic gains to be made from ultra-fast connectivity, not to mention reliability of the network," Mr Mackenzie said.
The loop would ensure a super fast communications network between Transpower's Auckland substations and provide a secure power supply throughout the city, he said.
