Energy company Vector is apologising to Wellington businesses after an outage left hundreds of retailers in the CBD without power yesterday.
A substation fire beneath the car park in the James Cook Hotel caused the outage which affected around 1600 customers and knocked out traffic lights.
The Terrace and part of the central city were the worst hit areas.
Keith Fitzpatrick, Vector spokesman, said crews responded immediately to the incident and restored power to most customers yesterday.
