The price of petrol and diesel jumped four cents at the pump today.
The move from BP, Caltex, Shell and Mobil pushed the price of 91-octane up to $1.68 a litre and diesel up to $1.06.
While the latter three also added four cents to the price of premium 95-octane, lifting it to $1.74 a litre, BP added six cents.
The company said the move was due to significant increases in the international cost of premium petrols.
Supply manager Jonathan Wake said the recent increases in the New Zealand dollar were not enough to mitigate the increases in the cost of fuel.
Production costs and difficulty in sourcing the premium petrol had widened the cost gap between 91 and 95, he said.
A Shell spokeswoman said the cost of crude oil had increased by 25 per cent since the start of May, while the dollar had increased by about 16 per cent.
