Australia's largest power retailer AGL Energy has formally ended its pursuit of a $A14 billion ($16.09 billion) merger with rival Origin Energy, the majority shareholder of New Zealand's Contact energy.
The "merger of equals" proposal, which was rejected by Origin last month, had now been withdrawn, AGL chief executive Paul Anthony said yesterday.
