Meridian Energy has lodged the first stage of its resource consents for a proposed hydro-generation tunnel on the north bank of the Waitaki River with Environment Canterbury.
The North Bank Tunnel Concept is a hydro-generation proposal taking water from Lake Waitaki and discharging it back into the Waitaki River about 34 km downstream near Stonewall.
Meridian adopted a staged approach to consenting to ensure the water is available before millions of dollars are invested on detailed engineering investigations.
