CANBERRA - New mandatory renewable energy targets will work in conjunction with a proposed carbon trading scheme to ensure emission reduction targets are achievable, Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull said yesterday.
The Government had set one of the world's first mandatory renewable energy targets of 9500 GW/h from 2010-2020, and that was now tripled to 30,000 GW/h by 2020, he said.
"We have an emission trading scheme which will be putting a price on carbon, and making the economics of renewable energy better, and encouraging renewable energy," he told ABC radio.
