The Electricity Authority is "looking into" rises in wholesale electricity prices since the end of November but is not calling it a formal investigation.
The authority is an independent Crown entity responsible for the efficient operation of the New Zealand electricity market and it succeeded the Electricity Commission on November 1.
"In response to reports from participants, the authority confirms that it is looking into increases in wholesale electricity prices since the end of November, in accordance with its mandate " it said in a statement today.
"The authority has yet to form a view on currently high spot prices and is not undertaking a formal investigation at this point."
