Contact Energy's delayed gas storage project in Taranaki has the green light to become operational, just a month before the $170 million project was to be commissioned.
Problems filling the depleted Ahuroa gas field delayed the project but Contact, majority-owned by Australia's Origin Energy, says it will be possible to draw off gas next month.
