KEY POINTS:
An onshore oil exploration well near Amberley in north Canterbury has been found to be dry.
The Kate-1 well was drilled by Nelson-based company Green Gate. Widespread Energy, which has an 11.7 per cent stake in Green Gate, yesterday said: "While Kate-1 as a dry hole condemns the specific location of the well, in light of these positive factors the prospect deserves further detailed evaluation and the prospectivity of the wider permit area has in no way been eliminated."
